HOW TO CALCULATE THE SIZE AND CAPACITY OF WATER TANK

Calculation of size and Capacity of Rectangular water tank?

For high-rise buildings, we will receive approved drawings from the office regarding water tank dimensions. But if you need to estimate a water tank for a small residential building, this article is essential for you to read.

We Divide the Calculation into two parts.

How to calculate the volume of water requirements?

According to per IS code135 liters of water we need for one person per daily use. Now let,s break up the Is assumption

According to the following points

1: For cooking 5 liters.

2: For drinking 5 liters.

3: For bathing and toilet, 85 liters.

4: For cleaning of housing 10 liters.

5: For kitchen and washing clothes 30 liters.

Estimation of Tank Size and Capacity:

For a typically four members containing family

For four members containing family, The total water requirement is 135 liters multiply by four which is equal to 540 liters (135 x 4 = 540)

We all know that (1m3=1000 liters)

But we also know that

1 liter is equal to 0.001 m3 (1 liter= 0.001 m3)

But we need 540 liters of water for our house so

Since 540 litres is equal to 0.54 m3 as (540 x 0.001 = 0.54 m3)

Let’s suppose the Depth of the water tank is 0.6 m.

The Area of tank becomes 0.54 /0.6 which is equal to 0.9 m2 (0.54/0.6= 0.92 m2)

L multiply B= 0.9 m2

We can put the value on the above-given formula If we know one of the above-given dimensions.

Note: we can also consider the Length as two times of breadth

Therefore

(L =2B)

But two times of breadth multiply by one time of breadth is equal to 0.9m2

(2B , B=0.9m2)

So B2 is equal to 0.45

(B2= 0.45)

But also B is equal to 0.67 (B=0.67)

So, therefore, Length is equal to 2 multiply by 0.67, which is similar to 1.34m (2 x 0.67= 1.34 m)

The water tank size of 540 liters will be.

Length will be equal to 1.34 m ( L=1.34 m )

And Depth is equal to 0.6 ( D =0.6m )

Breadth is equal to 0.67 m ( B=0.67m )
