HOW TO CALCULATE SHUTTERING AREA

The shuttering area calculation is very easy and simple. To understand well it is very important to clear the basic concepts. The temporary structures in building construction are known as Shuttering or formwork. The shuttering helps in the concrete pouring to get the desired shape. Different types and sizes of shuttering’s are used in the building construction for different members’ construction which having (Different shapes).

The Shuttering area is measured in Square meters or in Square foot depending upon which type of unites are using. The shuttering can be calculated by measuring the surface area and which is attached to the concrete surface after pouring the concrete.

The shuttering area calculation is very easy for every structural member because you just need to measure the area of the member over which concrete is going to pour.

For slab, you need to first calculate the surface area of the slab and the second you need to measure the perimeter of the slab because the shuttering is also going to use in the slab sides.

For Better understand let’s solve this example. In this example we take the column and footing shuttering area calculation but if you need to measure the slab shuttering area you need to just measure its perimeter as well as the surface area of the slab in square meter or in square foot.

SHUTTERING AREA CALCULATION FORMULA SOLUTION

FOR COLUMN:

Example: Suppose we have a column that is going too constructed. The column has a Height of 3 m, the Width of the column is 0.35 m and length is 0.35 m and the column footing having a length of 2.5 m, footing Width is 2 m and the thickness of the footing is 0.5 m. So

  1. Calculate the shuttering Area in square meters?
SHUTTERING AREA

Given Data:

Footing Dimensions

Length = 2.5 m

Width = 2 m

Thickness = 0.5 m

Column Dimensions

Length = 0.35 m

Width = 0.35 m

Height = 3 m

Solution:

FOOTING CALCULATION:

This footing having 4 sides over which shuttering is going to use. As we know that the footing downside is attached with the earth or the top side is open to the air so that footing these places are neglected for shuttering area calculation because there is no need for any type of shuttering.

One Side Area = L x T

= 2.5 x 0.5

= 1.25 meter square.

Four Sides Area = 4 x 1.25

= 5 meter square Ans...

COLUMN CALCULATION:

The column is also having 4 sides over which shuttering is going to use. The Bottom side of the column is always attached with column footing or top side of the column is attached with the slab so that places are neglected in shuttering area calculation.

One Side Area = W x H

= 0.35 x 3

= 1.05 meter square.

Four Sides Area = 4 x 1.05

= 4.2 meter square Ans...

CONCLUSION:

Column Shuttering Area = 4.2 Meter Square.

Footing Shuttering Area = 5 Meter Square.

So in the column, we need shuttering which covered the area 4.2 meter and for column footing, we need shuttering which covered the area 5 meter. To compile the shuttering area we get a total area of 9.2 meters.
